The Nemocón Salt Mine is an unique and beautiful place in Colombia where you can explore an underground marvel with over 500 years of history. This site features surprising structures and remnants of traditional underground mining. Within its deep interior, you will visit an extraordinary landscape filled with chambers, columns, an underground salt dome 80 meters below the surface, and even an 80-year-old salt waterfall. Above ground, you can visit the Virgin of Carmen Chapel, with its enormous rock sphere that weighs more than one ton. This sphere depicts the world and was important to miners: blue represents the sky and white symbolizes the Virgin’s purity, peace, and hope floating above the world and protecting everyone, especially the miners. In addition, you can marvel at a heart-shaped, 1,600 kilo salt crystal carved in 1905 by the miner Miguel Sánchez.
