Just 90 minutes away from Bogotá, you have the opportunity to experience an authentic and historic Colombian coffee farm. In this tour, you’ll learn about the process of growing some of the most celebrated coffees in the world, and you’ll taste the results of the bean’s journey from seed to cup. The process begins with coffee seeds sprouting in a greenhouse. Next, you’ll observe flowering coffee bushes, grown under shade, and learn about different varietals of Arabica coffee grown in Colombia. You’ll experience what it’s like to be a coffee picker, hunting for the reddest, ripest beans. Next, we’ll visit the beneficiadora (processing warehouse), where you’ll see the coffee beans washed, pulped, fermented, and ultimately laid out to dry. Each bean goes through a rigorous selection process for quality, from selection on the branch, to hand-selection before pulping, to sorting after drying. After drying, the coffee goes through a husking process to remove a parchment layer. Finally, we’ll witness the last step in producing quality coffee: roasting. An excellent roasting process gives the beans their flavor and aroma. When you take the first sip of this coffee, you’ll have a whole new appreciation and understanding for everything the coffee has gone through to arrive in your cup.
